In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.“~Ephesians 6:16-17

The shield of faith can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Wow! Faith is powerful. The temptation to despair and give up hope comes when we let go of faith. When we let down our guard, the shield of faith, is when temptations to hopelessness can creep in. Doubts about God, God’s faithfulness, and even ourselves come at us. Those thought processes quickly spiral and pull us down into an abyss.

A warrior would not go into battle without a helmet. The helmet of salvation is the assurance of Christ, and that our earthly battle is just that–earthly. Heaven, eternity, is coming. The sword of the Spirit, the word of God, helps us to fight our battles. Quoting Scripture during temptation and times of difficulty will give us the strength to carry on.

(Note: This is not the entire passage of the armor of God, just a few verses I wanted to focus in on. I have been encouraged to put on the armor of God from Ephesians 6 every day. I encourage you to do the same!)
