“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. ” Romans 12:9-14
These few verses hold so much power and so many admonitions! These verses encourage us to cling to righteousness. We are reminded to constantly remember our mission of serving our Savior. We are reminded to hope and to stay joyful in the midst of suffering. We are reminded to be faithful in love of our neighbor and devotion to our God. We’re reminded to persevere in the midst of affliction. Generosity is a huge theme in this passage. After all, what is one of the greatest ways to love God? By loving the people He has created!
A difficult admonition we are given is to bless those who persecute us. It’s difficult to love those who have wronged us in any way, but we’re reminded to leave blessing in our wake. Love is our legacy.
