Thoughts On A New Year.

“In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:9

It’s that time of year again. The time when yet another year (!) has already passed. In anticipation of a new year, people begin to make “New Year’s Resolutions.” (Some will keep them, many others will not.) People forget that every day is another opportunity to make different choices. Most aren’t praying when they make their list of new year’s resolutions.

What if we let go of our plans and asked the Lord what His will is concerning the year?

Each year holds many surprises. One notable surprise in 2018 was a trip that I “randomly” (according to human eyes) was able to go on, to my great joy. Some of these “surprises” may be sorrowful circumstances which will forever change the pattern of our lives or the lives of those we love. The thing is, nothing is a surprise to our Creator. Our Heavenly Father knows every day and every circumstance that we will encounter. Even our mistakes and the sins that we will fall into are known to Him before we make them.

There are many goals that I’m working toward. I trust that God will walk alongside me to

help nurture them to fruition. Yet, above all, I want to be in the center of God’s will. I want to live the “best life” which He has for me (and that doesn’t mean a life free of suffering). If my Heavenly Father steers me in another direction, I want to be ready to trade my road map for His. His will is not what I ever imagined for the age I am now. Yet, the unique path that He has designed for me has carried so many treasures. The path that I planned would never have been the same as the one I am on now.  For that, I am so, so grateful. Without knowing yet what a single moment of 2019 holds, I’m grateful for the next year and the places that God will take me and the ways He will continue to mold me.

Pray: Lord, I commit to you my 2019. I give You all my fears, hopes, dreams, and goals. My days are all in Your hands. I trust You to lead me on the path of righteousness. I trust You to lead me exactly where You want me to be, for my life and in order to bless others. Thank You, Lord, for all that You have done, all that You are doing, and all that You are about to do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
