Holding On To Hope.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Having hope isn’t always an easy task. It’s in the situations when we really need hope that it’s easiest to lose it! Hope is so necessary to live our best lives possible. Hope brings freedom. When we lose hope, we live in anxiety and fear. We lose our joy and our center. Hope lifts the shackles of worry off of us. Hope protects and preserves–when we lose hope, we lose faith in the thing we hoped for! If we are no longer hoping, we might miss it when what we hoped for comes along!

To the world, remaining in hope sometimes seems crazy. But, we serve an awesome God! He’s a way-maker, a miracle worker, a promise keeper…Jesus Christ came as a human being to earth, this painful, messy, confused place. Then He died and actually rose from the dead for you–for your eternal JOY! HOPE is what God offers!

In finding your dream job, or a job…Have hope! Maybe there are still some stepping stones before you get there, so that you can do the BEST job possible! Or, maybe God will reveal something even greater to you along the way!

As far as meeting a suitable spouse…Have hope! Being hopeless isn’t going to attract the person you are waiting on! Have HOPE in God’s promises and goodness…Even if the timing is not what you wanted or what the world thought was reasonable!

In any situation…Have hope! You never know how the situation will turn around! In my life, I remember a time when I had been job searching for months…I had interview after interview…But no job offers (except retail). One day, out of the blue, I had an email from a supervisor at an organization where I had volunteered a few years back. They were starting a new program–and my qualifications literally fit perfectly with what they were looking for! Basically, it was my dream job due to the different elements of it. I got the job almost automatically! Believe me, I never would have expected that to happen! But GOD. Faith and hope sustained me throughout all those closed doors!

Find hope! It will add increase and strength to your life, as well as to the lives of those around you! An attitude of hope is, well, hopeful! If you’re struggling with finding hope…Pray for it! Believe me, it will be granted, sometimes in ways you never expected! I love all my readers and I pray that each of you has an outpouring of hope as you read, in whatever situation you need hope!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Reflecting on Christmas and Gifts

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”~James 1:17

This time of year we celebrate the greatest, most perfect gift the world has ever seen: Jesus Christ! God the Father sent us His only Son as a gift. Jesus Christ coming as a human being enabled us to have a personal relationship with God, a more intimate relationship. All along the Father knew that His Son would suffer a horrific death. He sacrificed His only Son for wretched human beings! But He knew that this would bring salvation for His children. The gift of relationship with Jesus Christ is one that can’t be beat. And the gift of salvation? It’s an eternal gift!

I have asked for many gifts throughout my lifetime. In this post I am thinking specifically of gifts that I have asked of my Heavenly Father. Some gifts I have asked for years, but they are not gifts He has seen fit to give me–at least not yet. Instead, He’s given me many other gifts–gifts that have blessed my life abundantly and made my heart full.

I have an amazing roommate. I am a hugely independent person. If one year ago you would have told me I’d be sharing a house, I wouldn’t have believed you. Having a companion to share life with has been one of the biggest blessings of this year. Especially a roommate that God truly chose and made it clear to us that this was an open door from Him. Our temperaments and our vision for life are so alike.christmas-party-cute

I have Benny, an amazingly affectionate kitty. I was “maybe” going to get a cat. Then he put his paw on my arm and looked up at me. So he came home with me. Never in my life have I met a cat like him. I am so grateful he is mine to care for and love. Every day he provides laughter to us with his antics. The Lord knew I needed him.benny-cuddle-2

The Heavenly Father has given me a job that allows me to interact with my brothers and sisters from around the world daily–one of my greatest joys. And this year, He gave me the long-awaited opportunity to travel across the world!

I could go on and on. The thing is, what I’ve noticed is that nearly all of these gifts were unexpected. They weren’t what I prayed for, but they were still answered prayers. I didn’t ask for these gifts, but I needed them greatly. And I am so grateful. My heart is happy and full.

What great gifts from our Father are we not seeing because we’re simply focused on the ones we don’t have?

Our Father is a good, good Father!

Answered Prayers, Grief, and Letting Go

When you pray, be ready to let go. Thy will be done. The Lord hears our prayers. Be ready to let go, if the answer isn’t what you’d hoped for. If it turns out to be a “yes” and our amazing God makes a way–then be prepared to let go then, too. Recently I came across this article, which deals with grief at answered prayers. Though we ask our Father and have the request granted, we may find it bittersweet. It doesn’t seem to make sense at first. Doesn’t praying for something mean a person really hopes for it? Why would a person grieve their prayers being answered?

Well, my friend, I think I know. In my own life, God is broadening my horizons in various

ways. I am seeing prayers answered, but also seeing the reality of what those answered prayers will mean. These answered prayers of mine will lead to sacrifices. They will lead to change. For a time, or maybe a long time, they will lead to discomfort and purification. And sometimes, I’m just not ready to let go.  The “yes” that my Father gives sweeps me off my feet, and I realize that I must let go of the now and move into the great and different future that I have prayed for, and He has granted.

It’s amazing how attached we can grow to the way things are. Familiarity is comfortable. Yet it can easily bring stagnancy. When we grow roots, it allows us to grow deeper into Christ. We can grow deeper into the person Christ is calling us to be. Once the tree of our life has grown fruit, we must also be pruned to make way for new branches. Though times of change are often joyful, we also need to grieve the season we are moving away from. We need to grieve it and be ready to embrace the next one, to grow in different ways. We must welcome change and even the possibility of being uprooted and planted elsewhere.

The world promises you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.”-Pope Benedict XVI

Be ready for answered prayers, to grieve what is passing away, and to let go and make room for the new!

Really, Nothing Is Impossible

Remember my previous post about open doors ? My friends, the power of God is REAL! You never know what God is preparing behind the scenes. You have no idea how your all-powerful Father can literally turn it all around in an instant! No matter where you are in life, God is above it! The circumstances we think are impossible are–if we are thinking on human terms. But with our awesome God, nothing is impossible.

There was a door in my life that I thought was shut.  It was locked tight. I thought that the key

would not be handed to me for a long time, due to circumstances. I had faith that it would happen…Yet I had pounded on doors, prayed, and hoped for many years. It even brought me to tears sometimes, the hope was so strong. Once again, it seemed that I would have to wait another year, or many more. I felt stuck. The dream seemed to be going nowhere.

Then…With one conversation, that door OPENED WIDE! I must step through it

boldly, with praise and thanksgiving. I couldn’t have predicted this in any way. I didn’t do anything to deserve it! I am in awe of the ways our Father is looking out for us and guiding us. Even a month later, it still seems surreal! I will finally be one step closer to pursuing a long-time dream! Stepping through this door will help me further discern my life path and some big decisions.

All I can say is that we have a good, good Father. If you’re continually running into closed doors, don’t doubt Him…It will be so, so sweet when He opens that door just right for you!

All glory be to my Lord Jesus Christ, now and forever!

“I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept My word and have not denied My name.”~Revelation 3:8
