I came across an email sent to me nearly 2 years ago. This email was packed to the brim with encouragement that I needed today! It was prophetic, if you will. I remembered the basics of the email and searched for it, seeking the treasures found within. Even now, 2 years later, the inspiration echoed.
I sent a “thank you” email to the person who had sent the email! I pray that they will be encouraged and built up by my act of thanking them! I wonder how many other people they have encouraged and will encourage?
You never know how much it will encourage someone to hear how they have encouraged you! Encouragers can get tired. Sometimes those who give encouragement rarely receive encouragement themselves. It’s important to make others aware of how they have impacted our lives! Gratitude is so important for our own state of mind, in addition to refreshing the people who have touched our lives!
If someone gave you a word to change the course of your life 10, 20, even 30 years ago…Reach out! Thank them and tell them how they changed your life or your mindset.
If a friend helped you last week with something seemingly small…Say “thank you!” Tell them why you appreciate them.
If you’ve never thanked your parents for the sacrifices they made raising you…Say “thank you” and let them know how they shaped you to be who you are today.
You could say thank you with words, some homemade baked goods, a card, an email, flowers, taking them out to coffee, a spiritual bouquet …The possibilities are endless!
Your “thank you” could mean more than you ever know!
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”~Hebrews 10:23-25
The huge theme of this passage is encouragement. The author encourages the reader (you!) to hold fast to your hope in Jesus without wavering. This means that our hope protects from doubt. We are reminded of the Lord’s faithfulness. Even in difficult times, our God is faithful to us and upholding us. We are exhorted to encourage others and stir them up to good works. Christian community and its necessity is mentioned. We cannot neglect a faith community, and must hold strongly to it. Community strengthens all of the individuals within it, thus strengthening the Church as a whole. The book of Hebrews gives strong advice to us about running our race and enduring even in difficulty.
(It’s been a long time since I did one of The Word on Wednesday posts. I will try to be more consistent about this! Thanks for reading!)
Have you ever profited from encouragement? Lately this theme has been largely present in my life, and I am so grateful for all the ways that I am being encouraged! I was feeling discouraged about whether I had made the right choice in certain aspects of life, but the Holy Spirit has spoken through so many people to encourage me that I’m on the right road. When you step back and take a moment to look, you’ll see that God is also encouraging you in so many ways throughout each day. Sometimes it comes in the form of a word from others, and sometimes finding just the right encouragement in His Word. Other times, God speaks directly to our heart by allowing us to experience blessings that are personally meaningful to us. If things aren’t going right, perhaps He is trying to encourage you to make changes in your life.
Check out my article on Ignitum Today about encouragement. It seems like such a simple concept, yet it is so powerful! Don’t ever discount the difference that encouragement can make in the lives of others! Thank God for the encouragement that you are receiving each day! It is a gift from your Heavenly Father!
