“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.” 1 John 2:9-11
1 John contains some strong convictions about love. When we have any trace of hatred in our heart, we are still in darkness. Our hatred for a brother or sister keeps us blind and from loving God and others as we should. Notice verse 11: “they do not know where they are going.” Our hatred leads to blindness, which leads to losing direction! We are no longer following Christ when we harbor hatred. Loving our brothers and sisters completely is living in the light.
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your heart and any areas of darkness. Ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to love–especially those whom are hard to love. Clearly, hatred is not compatible at all with following Christ. We must allow any hatred to be completely uprooted from our hearts in order to walk in the light.
Events are hitting the world that turn realities upside down. Events are happening in our personal lives to turn our lives upside down. I believe that now is a corporate sifting time. Whether it be through a natural disaster, a breakup, a job loss, or any other event that turns life in a totally different direction…The Lord is sifting hearts, and purifying them. He is seeking continued faithfulness from those who have been faithful. He is desperately trying to get the attention of those who are far, and those who have never known Him. (Though I don’t believe He is causing these disasters, for some reason He is allowing them.) The thing is, our trials ultimately aren’t to push us to lean on worldly sources. They are meant to lead us into the arms of our Heavenly Father. When events happen that are simply beyond our control, and we feel that we simply cannot do it any longer…That is the time when nothing is left to lean on but Him, and it is the time to surrender!
I don’t know what is happening in your life. Maybe you’ve been devastated by a hurricane, and the home you invested so much money and love into is now gone. Maybe you’ve done what you thought God was calling you to do, and life looks like a mess. Perhaps you or a loved one were just diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness. Friend, no matter what, your Creator is looking for your heart. He doesn’t care if your heart is in pieces–He’s in the business of putting broken hearts back together. Jesus wants to be with you through all you are facing or ever will face. He wants to walk with you through it all. Most of all, He wants to welcome you into Heaven one day, the place where broken hearts and pain will be no more.
Give Him your heart. Let Him hold you and carry you through this life, and onto eternity with Him one sweet day.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
“Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge Him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:3
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
“Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life.”—Proverbs 4:23
It’s time for my monthly post over at Modern Ruth Project! This month, the theme is boundaries vs. intimacy. I bare my heart about when I have not followed the wisdom of this very important verse from Scripture. I share about the importance of guarding one’s heart and what it takes to build a healthy relationship.
Check out my guest post! Hope you are able to gain wisdom as you discern best how to guard the one heart that you have been given from above!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”~Proverbs 3:5-6
How much do we make our focus wanting to know which path to take? For many of us, we expend a tremendous amount of our thought life and energy trying to “figure things out.” This can bring our hearts to places of confusion. It can bring us to trusting in ourselves and our own abilities to choose and decide. We lose focus of our Creator. Where should our hearts find their first priority? As these verses remind us, we must submit our hearts and our ways to God. We must trust in our God completely. When we submit to Him and trust Him in each area of our lives, He will make our paths straight. Living in a holy manner and in trust will keep us on a straight path to the Heavenly Father and the purpose in our lives.
Everywhere in the world, the Spirit is moving. The world is being changed and transformed. Embedded below is one of my current favorite songs about this very topic.
The Lord is working in each of our lives, too, in very specific ways. Truly, He is on the move! What do you feel the Holy Spirit doing in your life? If it’s not something you’ve thought about recently, ask what He is doing and wants to do!
In my life, I feel Him freeing me. I am being freed from old habits and ways of thinking. In many ways, too, it is apparent that He is preparing me and opening my heart up to new adventures. It’s been a process of letting go in order to say “yes” to what He is asking. Though the “yeses” may be painful, I know that I will not be led where the grace of God will not be with me. Pain must come, sacrifices must be made on this journey. These will only lead me closer to my Father and His plan for my life. I can’t wait to see what else is ahead and where the preparation leads! Thank You, Lord, for all that You’ve done, all You are doing and all that You are about to do!
What is the Spirit doing in your life? I would love to hear about it!
During this Christmas season, I pray that you have been able to grow even closer to the heart of Jesus.I hope that you have been able to soak in the depth of His love for you and come to an even greater realization of that love. I came across a great post recently. All of us have deep desires within our heart. Yet, we are never totally satisfied, even once these desires come to pass. Check out this post about Christmas being the fulfillment of our deepest desires. I hope it will resonate with you as it did with me!
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”~Colossians 3:1-4
Don’t get bogged down by worldly worries. Set your heart and mind on what is above! Your life is “hidden in Christ with God!” When we focus on our Lord instead of our worries, we are much better able to handle all that comes our way in this life. Continually raise your heart and mind to Him! Why do we waste so much time worrying about useless things? He is the treasure that we seek.
Together journeying toward the Creator and becoming the creations we were meant to be.
